Psychology Essay and University Conference

Well, today I've finally started putting pen to paper for my psychology essay for a competition at Cambridge University. The essay has to be on the theme of 'social and developmental psychology' and I have chosen to research childhood experience and it's effect on the development of the authoritarian personality, with specific reference to Adolf Hitler.

I'm finding it a challenging but intriguing topic and I've managed to order several books from the British Library, including 'Hitler's Psycopathology' which I am finding to be a fascinating read. I'm having regular working lunches with my psychology teacher which is proving very helpful as to deciding on the structure of my essay and reviewing the content. I have until 24th April to complete the essay and I am hoping to finish writing it this week so my teacher can review it and it will be ready to send.

I also attended a university conference at Bournemouth University yesterday, which I found to be very useful as there were representatives from universities all over the country and I was given the opportunity to talk to them and ask them my questions about the accomodation and the course. I am planning the open days that I want to attend and I am hoping that I will be able to choose the universities that I am going to apply for in the next few months.

My revision is well underway for my AS Level exams and I'm looking forward to a challenging, but rewarding few months.

Nottingham!

Well, I got back from my psychology course at Nottingham University yesterday!
I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be an amazing and really valuable experience! We had seven lectures on the monday and although they went on until 11:30pm, they were so interesting I was hooked the whole way through!
My favourite lectures were probably the ones on psychosis as the woman giving the lecture- Paige Wilcoxson was dynamic and really knew her topic and the lecture on Freud and dream analysis as it was a hundred times better than I'd have expected!
We also had lectures on gambling and addiction, cyberspace romance, child psychology, NLP, eating disorders and winning a place at university. They were all really interesting and I've been inspired to research futher into the topics after hearing about them.
I particually enjoyed the experience of being at university for a night, with my own room! It made me hungry for universtiy life and it's really encouraged me to work even harder to make sure I get into my university of choice!
My interest in psychology has rocketed since I started studying for my a-levels in september and it keeps on growing and growing. At the moment I'm researching for an essay on the psychology of an authoritarian personality and I'm just enjoying everything to do with the subject and finding it the most interesting subject I've ever studied!
My only regret about the course was that it didn't go on for longer!
